On the wicked abduction, conversion to Christianity and sale into slavery of Kano kids

Press Statement
On the wicked abduction, conversion
to Christianity and sale into slavery of Kano kids
Nigerians, especially Kanawa woke up to the rude and shocking news of the Nigeria Police Force rescue of nine innocent Kano children abducted by some criminal and wicked elements who sold them off into slavery, some as far back as five years ago.
The young boys and girls were said to have been kidnapped from various locations in Kano. They had their identities changed  and sold as slaves to  families in far away  Onitsha Anambra State. They were at the same time forcefully   converted into Christianity.
We are grateful to God for saving them and reuniting them with their families.
We, at Kano LEADS are most impressed by the efficient deployment of the Nigeria Police Force, tracing and repatriating the hapless children.
We are Proud of the Kano Police Command for their diligent and painstaking investigations and pray they pursue the case to its logical conclusion. We stand by the Police in this case.
We urge the Kano State Government and the State Legislature to support the Nigeria Police to ensure the case is pursued to ithe end . All those found involved in this dastardly act whoever they may be and all the criminal and wicked syndicates behind them must be fully exposed and brought to book.
We are aware, that there are reported cases of similar mysterious abductions that were left unattended. We therefore implore the Kano Police Command to dig those cases up and do the needful.
With diligent prosecution by the Police, with justice done and seen to be done, such dastardly criminal acts capable of causing civil unrest of unprecedented proportions will be forestalled.
We commend the good people of Kano for their exceptional restraint on this issue thus far. This is in clear contrast to the many instances of mean and vicious reactions on issues involving our people in  communities away from home  Nevertheless  we call on them to continue to remain calm.
We warn all those involved in this criminal act to know that Kano LEADS and all Kanawa will not tolerate such ever again. It is unacceptable; and we vow to monitor every step of the resolution of this case.
We seek justice for the hapless children and their families that have been made to suffer such unbearable trauma.
We will keep an eye on this. We will expose anybody who attempts to compromise on securing justice for the victims, and for Kano and Kanawa.
We wish to call on all citizens of Kano to stand by these victims and their families. We urge Kanawa and all people of conscience  to join Kano LEADS in tackling this menace as we follow up on each and every step in the  process  of resolving this case.
We call on our legal minds and fellow NGOs and CBOs to join us in petitioning the AU, The UN and all relevant stakeholders to note this return to slavery which belongs to the rank of internationally outlawed crimes.
We wish to  reemphasise  that there are a lot more of such criminals especially those in the heartless drug business targeted at wiping out our younger generation.
In view of the gravity and implications of this criminal act we conclude  by demanding  that :
1) The culprits, their community and State Governments must pay reparations to the victims.
2) The National Human Rights Commission and The NAPTIP charged with tackling child trafficking  must follow up on this and ensure that justice is done and seen to be done.
3) For a total resolution, we call on the Kano State Government to:
a ) hasten, with renewed vigor the conclusions  of  the House Numbering exercise
b)  pursue the project of relocating drug wholesalers in the city
c) ensure closer monitoring of the retail arm of drugs.
d) assist NDLEA to keep up the good work it is doing and move it to a higher pitch to rid Kano of drugs and to bring those leading the trade to book.
e) initiate the process of issuing Identity cards for monitoring and security of our people living outside Kano.
Once again, we condemn the wicked act and call for decisive and prompt action to ensure justice is done and seen to be done
