The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has said its chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, is now hale and hearty having received medical attention.
In a short statement on Thursday, EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, said the clarification became necessary following an incident on September 16, 2021 at the Presidential Villa, Abuja where he was giving a goodwill message at the National Identity Day celebration, felt unwell and had to return to his seat.
“He has since received medical attention and is due back at his desk,” Uwujaren said.
Newsreports published earlier had said that the chairman of the EFCC slumped at a public event holding at the Aso Rock Villa on Thursday.
Bawa is one of the EFCC’s elite staff employed by the commission in its early years shortly after set up by the Obasanjo regime. He was appointed head of the EFCC in February, 2021, as the first staff of the Commission to head the EFCC since its creation.
Previous heads designated Executive Chairman had been senior Police Officers beginning at inception with Nuhu Ribadu who retired as AIG, with the last Chief Executive, being CP Ibrahim Magu who was removed early this year, in the cloud of controversy that was the defining characteristic of his tempestuous tenure.
